- > >BTW. What`s the current status of Almathera`s Amiga Development ?
-
- We at Almathera have supported the Amiga since our creation in 1991.
- We have stuck by the Amiga in good and bad times, throughout the buy-out
- period and beyond when other companies gave up.
-
- We launched Photogenics, one of a handful of new Amiga commercial
- packages released after the collapse of C=, and have continued to develop
- new versions.
-
- However, the Amiga market has never recovered to the levels it did in the
- days of Commodore, and we do not expect it to.
-
- Sales of the new Amigas have been slow, the machines are seriously
- underpowered compared with other computer systems on the market, and
- Amiga Technologies have been unable or reluctant to provide any serious
- developer support - our email enquiries remain unanswered and things we
- were told by them in the past have been proven untrue, so we are
- reluctant to take their word when they say they have 'exciting new
- machines' planned for this year.
-
- It is because of this that, reluctantly, Almathera are no longer an
- Amiga-only developer. We are developing two major products currently for
- the PC platform (not Photogenics).
-
- However, we have not abandoned the Amiga or Photogenics. Although the
- in-house Amiga development team for Photogenics has now been reduced to
- just me, I will continue to develop and improve the product. I am working
- on a 1.2b updater at the moment (to be ready within 2 weeks) of mainly
- bug-fixes, and we hope to have a MAJOR update (significant rewrite) with
- ARexx support ready for April (Arexx support is already at alpha-test
- stage). A CD-ROM version of Photogenics in April is also extremely likely.
-
- We also have other technologies being developed across multiplatforms
- that will include Amiga versions, I cannot talk any more about this.
-
- But we do not plan, at this stage, any new major Amiga products.
